On a whim, I made my last stop on a month long photography road trip at Steptoe Butte in Washington State. I’ve photographed this area extensively although never in the fall. I made it just in time for golden hour as the sun sank and, to my delight, moon rose. The rich colors of patchwork harvested wheat fields and newly plowed earth intensified as the sun fell; smoky haze from the many fires acted as a filter, and the shadows of the rolling hills deepened. It was an unusually still night which allowed me to take this image hand held! For those who know, Steptoe is rarely this peaceful - weather wise. It was simply an absolutely perfect evening!
