It matters because stars slowly change their positions relative to our co-ordinate system because of the Precession of the Equinoxes. In any case, Betelgeuse is so bright that you don’t need to give its position to even 1 decimal place, let alone 4 decimal places!

You’re welcome! My 80mm f2.0 portrait lens is one of my favorite observing tools. That is a single 10 second exposure at ISO3200!

Its fun to read tombstones with character, I wish I could think of such a witty one for mine. Funny.
But the comment “if there are people looking when” seems awfully pessimistic, as you seem to be an optimist, waiting, like me. I expect that not only will we, or a good semblance of us, will be looking for millions of years. In my little world, we are developing into a stable component of the evolution of intelligence, like the protozoans that have been part of life for billions of years. Don’t you think so, fellow optimist?
Why? because my 4 year old is so darling, as I am sure every dad’s child is, and so this justifies our existence; and every future robot, rocket, drone, tank, or toy, should know that.
