What am I missing here? Where is the ‘astrology’ in this? This article was a sort of mini-review of how the solstices and equinoxes were viewed in pastimes and now, with our advanced tech and instrumentation. Why the rant, are we not allowed to reflect on the past? Oh, perhaps in your first sentence you meant to say “astrological terms?” In which case…huh? As the article explains, and most educated people are aware, they are terms historically used (and still used in the present) to mark a phenomenon experienced from a planet’s-eye view of things happening in our sky, and throughout the ages they were extremely relevant to agrarian societies. As well as to all life on the planet tied to the cycle of light and darkness.

Whoops….didn’t realize this was a three year old article. Still, the late sunsets haven’t changed. I would like to see a movement to end daylight savings time. Not just for us astromomers but also for the school children that have to get up before sunrise in March and April to catch the bus. Little kids out on the side of the road in the morning dark is dangerous. Come on, no one should have to get up before sunrise unless you work a graveyard shift!

VF….There is big significance to lives of amateur astronomers. These short nights along with the crazy (imo) daylight savings time, mean that it doesn’t get get completely dark until around 10 pm. It definitely affects my life…mostly lack of sleep.
