debris trails. Doesn’t a comet leave a trail going towards the sun and another one leaving?

Works for me ! I believe Phaeton 3200 is three miles wide . It would leave and impressive dent if it ever hit earth .

It looks like it was crossing at the earth’s orbit–that is it’s 1.01 AU from the sun the other day but the earth is near aphelion also, so that could mean Phaeton is merely 10^6 miles ahead of or behind the earth in earth’s orbit?
hmm, Mercury’s orbit is precessing at something like 5000 sec/century (to my recollection) or in the neighborhood of 1 minute/century. And 3200P is much more elliptical than Mercury with much smaller perihelion so it should precess much faster. 1 minute/century =~ 600 million/360/60 at the earth’s orbit. So it seems to be precessing considerably more than 30,000 miles a century at the earth’s orbit. Hmm–I guess we probably have 25 centuries or so if it’s crossing behind. OTOH it could have been crossing earth’s orbit on a time scale of millennia .
Surely there must be another meteor shower when the earth passes through the spot where 3200P heads north of the ecliptic? Aries maybe?

the good yet somewhat bizarre thing about American art and political scenes is that they are so closely interconnected, which makes them somewhat surrealistically real … but wait, is the rest of the world any different? i guess all cultures have always been like that throughout history! :)
