Yes, kind of. As the map shows, the alignment is approximate, about 7 degrees off I believe. It changes gradually over the eons; was not notably closer in 2012…. Still, it’s a delightful coincidence that these seasonal landmarks of our planet’s particular tilted axis and orbital path around our star (winter solstice sun, summer solstice view into deep space), as well as the larger disc of the solar system, are close to synched up with the geography of the larger body of the galaxy! In the summer, Earth is passing between the sun and this approximate galactic center; in winter, we’re on the far side of the sun from the heart of the galaxy.

its called the teapot because its shaped like one and you can see in dark skies a haze of stars that look like steam rising out of the teapot.
