As I understand it, by far most stars are in galaxies, but sometimes orbital dynamics will change a star’s path so that it flies out of its home galaxy and takes off into intergalactic space.

Both times as brief dots of light before disappearing because of trees, new light sources (coming sunrise in one of them) and weather.

One of these days I’m going to head into the Wet or Sangre De Cristo mountains of Colorado where I know I can achieve zero light pollution and arrange a proper sighting.

The images are rotated 180 degrees opposite one another. Rotate one of them 180 degrees and you will see that both appear similar in relative positions.
